Workspace Metadata

APC requires a project metadata file inside the canonical context directory.

Current draft

In the current APC draft and current reference implementation, the metadata file is:

.apc/project.json

Some early design discussions described this more generically as workspace metadata, which is why this page uses the broader “workspace” label.

Required intent

The metadata file should answer:

what this project is called
which project version it is on
which APC target version the project expects
when the APC metadata set was created

Compatibility note

Older implementations may still write the historical apf version key. Compatible consumers should accept it for migration, but new projects should prefer apc.
